I enjoy all kinds of projects whether they are art-centric or commercially driven. Each of the two have their own elements that draws me to them. There is something really fulfilling about helping a person or entity promote their efforts for commercial success, especially when the video that we create is a major catalyst in reaching a new audience.
Artistically driven works serve as a constant reminder that it is important to always strive to do something meaningful. Film and even television has been a big part of how I have come to interpret the world around me and I believe that creating thoughtful, honest works in the motion picture medium is an excellent way to influence our society for the better.
To say I'm a self-taught in the video medium is partially inaccurate. Through hands-on experiences on a number of sets, so many talented people have shown me first-hand the principles of cinematography, lighting, set-design, marketing, editing, and directing. I am where I am because of so many amazing people that are true masters of their craft.
I've held a number of positions on many sets including director, DP, gaffer, grip, sound, DIT, camera operator, AC, and even PA. I've learned that in order to produce and direct a large-scale production it is absolutely key that I am able to understand the role of all of the jobs of my crew while on set. Whether it is thinking like an art-director or building a budget for a feature film, I use my past experiences to help guide my decision making for each project.
